Uses of Everyday Materials Knowledge Organiser

Year 2 ScienceUses of Everyday Materials1 page

About this worksheet

This one-page Year 2 knowledge organiser starts with seven key words, from material and property to flexible and rigid. Six picture cards give the properties and uses of wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick and rock, and cardboard and paper. Glass, for example, is clear, transparent and smooth, and is used for windows, spectacles and jars. A row of four pictures then says why each material suits its job, such as a plastic raincoat that keeps you dry. The sheet ends with four questions, including why paper would make a poor umbrella. No answers are given. It follows the England National Curriculum unit on uses of everyday materials.
