Materials and Their Uses Sorting

Year 2 ScienceUses of Everyday Materials3 pages

About this worksheet

Barnaby the inventor's workshop is in a muddle in this three-page Year 2 science sort. Pupils read twelve items, from a cricket bat to a horseshoe, and write each one under wood, metal or plastic. Two questions follow. One asks which item was hardest to place in only one column. The other asks pupils to add a new item for each material and say why the material suits it. The answer key gives the full table and example reasons. The task is matched to the England National Curriculum for uses of everyday materials.
