Growing Plants Knowledge Organiser

Year 2 SciencePlants1 page

About this worksheet

This one-page Year 2 knowledge organiser covers how plants grow. A Key Vocabulary table defines six words: seed, bulb, germination, seedling, temperature and shoot. A second box shows water, light and suitable temperature as the three things plants need. Across the middle, a strip of pictures follows a seed through germination and a seedling to a mature flowering plant, with the flower, leaves, stem and roots labelled. Four questions end the page, including what grows first from a germinating seed. There is no answer key. It follows the England National Curriculum for plants.

Curriculum objectives covered

Plants

โ€œFind out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.โ€

The What Plants Need box names all three, and question 1 asks for them. Pupils still need to find this out by growing plants.

Plants

โ€œObserve and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plantsโ€

How a Plant Grows shows a seed becoming a mature plant. Bulbs appear only in the vocabulary and question 4.
