Decimals Homework: Tenths, Hundredths and Thousandths

Year 5 MathsFractions, Decimals and Percentages5 pages

About this worksheet

A Year 5 homework on thousandths, three pages plus answers. A note for parents and carers opens it, with 0.348 worked on a place value chart. Pupils fill in a chart for 0.509 and 62/1000, then turn fractions such as 409/1000 and 2 15/1000 into decimals and back. They divide 8 by 10, 100 and 1,000, place five decimals on a line from 0 to 0.1, and decide whether 0.04 or 39/1000 is greater. It follows England National Curriculum fractions and decimals.

How teachers use it

After the first lesson

Send it home once thousandths have been introduced. The parent note and worked chart let an adult help without knowing your method.

Placeholder check

Questions 2, 5 and 6 (7/1000, 80/1000 and 3/1000) catch pupils who leave out the zeros. Go over these first when the sheets come back.

Class vote

Read Amir's and Maya's claims aloud and take a vote before anyone writes. Then have pupils rewrite 0.04 as thousandths to check.
