What's inside this worksheet

Adverbs How When or Where

A word bank of fifteen adverbs, such as quickly, soon and nearby, and a table with five rows under How, When and Where.

Write Your Own Sentences

Pupils choose one adverb from each column of their table and write a sentence for each, with three lines per sentence.

Answers

The sorted table, with a note that words can go in any order within a column. Sentences earn one mark each for being correct, with a capital letter and a full stop.

How teachers use it

Card sort

Cut the word bank into fifteen cards and let pairs sort them on a desk before anyone writes in the table.

Say it first

Ask pupils to say each sentence aloud before they write it. The sentence with a where adverb is the one most likely to lose its full stop.

Plenary

Read out a few page 2 sentences without the adverb and let the class guess the missing word and which column it came from.
