Transport Through History Exit Slip

Year 2 HistoryTransport Through History2 pages

About this worksheet

An exit slip for the end of a Year 2 lesson on transport through history. Pupils write one way people travelled in the past, then say how travel is different today. Each question has two answer lines. Under them, pupils circle one of five faces to show how they feel about today. There are three slips over two pages, two on page 1 and one on page 2. There is no answer key, because both questions take open answers. The slip follows the England National Curriculum for KS1 history.

Curriculum objectives covered

Changes within living memory

โ€œChanges within living memory. Where appropriate, these should be used to reveal aspects of change in national lifeโ€

Question 2 asks how travel has changed. Answers about cars, trains and planes in recent generations fit this objective.

Events beyond living memory

โ€œEvents beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally [for example, the Great Fire of London, the first aeroplane flight or events commemorated through festivals or anniversaries]โ€

Partly met. Question 1 lets pupils name an older form of transport, but the slip names no single event.

What's inside this worksheet

Question 1

Pupils name one way people travelled in the past.

Question 2

Pupils write how travel is different today, which needs a comparison rather than a name.

Circle how you feel about today

Five faces, from cross to grinning, for pupils to rate the lesson.

How teachers use it

End of lesson

Hand the slip out after a timeline lesson and collect it at the door.

Spotting gaps

Answers like bus, with nothing about the past, show who needs another look at the timeline the next day.

Reading the faces

Read the faces with question 2. A happy face and a blank second answer often means the pupil liked the pictures but cannot yet compare.
