Pip, a small shiny robot, gets lost in the long grass at the bottom of the garden after a falling twig blocks his path. A snail called Sam leads him home along a silvery trail. This three-page Year 2 English comprehension asks pupils to number four story events in order, then answer two detective questions about Pip's feelings and what might happen next. Two written questions. The first asks why Pip beeped sadly and how he felt. The second asks pupils to predict what Pip and Sam will do next time they play in the garden.

Read the story aloud with a group, then let them sort the four events before you talk about the SNAP moment.

Ask pairs to discuss detective question 2 before anyone writes. Predictions get better with a partner to disagree with.
