Two rich Year 5 history lessons: Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, and Ancient Greece. One continues the British history narrative through raids, the Danelaw and the struggle for the Kingdom of England; the other is the classic study of Greek life and achievements and their influence on the western world.
Both units come straight from the KS2 history programme of study in the England National Curriculum. The decks are built for presenting: maps, timelines, artefacts and sources drive the enquiry questions, and activities ask pupils to weigh evidence and explain significance rather than simply retell events. Key vocabulary is introduced slide by slide, so pupils build the language of each period as the story unfolds.
In Chalkie every slide is editable: deepen the Athens and Sparta comparison, add a local Viking place-name study, or regenerate tasks at a different pitch. Teachers use these Year 5 history lessons as the backbone of a half-term unit, splitting the deck across sessions and adding depth where their class shows interest.
Pupils study the Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England to the time of Edward the Confessor.
