Roman Britain and Anglo-Saxons and Scots: two substantial Year 4 history lessons covering consecutive periods of the Key Stage 2 British history story. Together they take pupils from the Roman invasion and occupation to the settlements that followed the legions' departure.
Both units are required by the England National Curriculum: the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain, and Britain's settlement by Anglo-Saxons and Scots. The decks are built for classroom presentation, with maps, timelines, sources and enquiry questions that develop pupils' chronological understanding and historical thinking.
Teachers typically stretch each deck across a unit, teaching from the slides and adding their own depth studies. In Chalkie you can edit or regenerate any slide: add a local Roman road or villa, extend the timeline, or re-pitch the activities, making these Year 4 history lessons a strong spine for a half-term of teaching. If your timetable is tight, each deck also condenses well into a single overview lesson.
Pupils study the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain, including the invasion, Boudica's resistance and Romanisation.
