Scissors: Shape and Function is a three-page 2nd grade science labeling sheet for NGSS K-2-ETS1-2. Students study a diagram of scissors and write a part and its job beside the letters A to E. Hands on
Give each table a pair of safety scissors. Students press a thumb into the small handle and feel why it is round.
Handle debate
The key accepts either handle if students justify it from the drawn sizes. Let two students argue their choice for the class.

After the sheet, ask students to draw another classroom tool and label its parts and jobs in the same way.
