Day or Night is the only choice students make in the first half of this 1st grade science page. They look at six pictures of sky objects and write one of the two words under each, and the answers alternate across both rows. The second half asks what the sky looks like when they wake up in the morning. Students then draw the daytime sky, with the sun included, as an early step toward NGSS 1-ESS1-1.

Morning meeting
Before students draw, take them to the window to look at the real sky. Their picture then comes from what they saw that day.

Students only copy two words, Day and Night. That keeps the effort on the science and away from spelling.
