The first year of English is about cracking the code: naming letters and their sounds, joining in with familiar stories, having a go at early writing, and learning to listen and speak in a group. These Foundation English lessons cover phonics and letter sounds, reading and comprehension, writing and drawing, and speaking and listening, each as a ready-to-present slide deck.

All four topics are aligned to the Australian Curriculum v9.0 for Foundation, drawing on the language, literature and literacy strands, and each deck lists the objectives it covers. That makes it simple to slot a lesson into your literacy block or use one as the explicit-teaching portion of a reading rotation.

Teachers present the slides on the board, but most adapt them in Chalkie first: swap the shared text, adjust the letters to match your phonics sequence, or add extra practice slides for students who need them. Planning Foundation English lessons this way is far quicker than starting from a blank deck.
